Android Nougat Updates Wont Come to Snapdragon 800/801 Devices

Android 7.0 Nougat Updates For Snapdragon 800/801 - Now the Android 7.0 Nougat has been released. Yep, Google has rolled out Nougat for the Nexus 6, the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Android One.

HTC has confirmed that the HTC 10, One A9 and One M9 will all get Nougat updates. Sony confirmed its devices for Xperia Z3+, the Xperia Z5 range, Xperia X and XA ranges.

Sadly, some of popular devices with the Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 801 processor such as HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z3, and Google Nexus 5 isn't planning to release Nougat. So they will miss the N party.

The rumors and speculation about Android 7.0 support for both Snapdragon processor was further fueled by a tweet from LlabTooFeR, the MaximusHD ROM's developer.

"Qualcomm will not release graphics drivers for 800/801 CPUs. So HTC One M8 and other devices based on this CPU won’t get official Android 7.0"

According to Qualcomm it is about the age. The OEMs including LG, HTC, Sony and etc have decided that Snapdragon 800/801 devices have reached the end of their product life cycles.

"Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. works closely with our OEM customers to implement and support varying versions of the Android OS across our Snapdragon chipsets. The length of time a chipset is supported and the upgradable OS versions available to consumers are subject to the OEM product lifecycle. We recommend you contact your device manufacturer or carrier for information on support for Android 7.0 Nougat."
